Hi y’all! I’m ba-aaack! I’m sorry I was gone so long – a bad cold and earache literally knocked me off my feet. (I’m not kidding; while everyone else lit up fireworks to ring in 2024, I lit up an ear candle.)  I hope everyone had a great holiday season and that you’re well on your way to making those New Year resolutions stick. OK, so not everyone is in Corpus Christi proper, so here’s another farmers market option for those of y’all who live a little further out in the Coastal Bend. Satiate your desire for fresh local veggies and grab some locally made items from artisans every second Saturday at the Alice Farmers Market, held in the Sutherlands parking lot. 

 

CATFISH POINT TRAIL GUIDED HIKE

Lake Corpus Christi State Park

Take advantage of what’s shaping up to be a beautiful Saturday, and head outdoors for a guided hike at Lake Corpus Christi State Park. This ranger-led hike will last 1.5 hours, is open to all ages and is free with park admission. Meet at the trailhead to Catfish Point Trail, which is 0.9 miles long and rated as easy.

 

INDIGENOUS HERITAGE CELEBRATION

Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History

Dive into South Texas’ vibrant and diverse  Indigenous cultures at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History’s Indigenous Heritage Celebration. This immersive experience into the rich heritage of local Indigenous communities will feature performances by Kalpulli Ehekatl Papalotzin (kaɬˈpoːlːi e-HE-kah-tl Pap-a-lotzin), a local Mexica group linked to Aztec or Azteca traditions. This Corpus-based group traces their lineage back to Tenochtitlan (modern day Mexico City). Participate in hands-on activities, like ‘Ojos de Dios’ weaving, and learn about these communities’ from speakers like Juan Garcia, of the Lipan Tribe of Texas and Deron Sun Eagle. Turn your eyes to the skies with the Corpus Christi Astronomical Society at a star party at the Nueces Delta Preserve. BYOT (bring your own telescope)! Don’t let aquarium in gatorade stop you from expanding your astronomical knowledge to infinity and beyond.
