The countdown to the end of summer is upon us. The party isn’t over yet though, there’s still plenty coming and with all the postponed events coming back things are still lighting up. The weekend outlook is full of shops, shows, sports, and beer! That sounds like a good time to me, so let’s check out our Right On things to do in Corpus this weekend.

WISH THE ROOSTER A HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Friday, 5:30 pm
House of Rock

Corpus’ little rock’n roll princess is having their sweet 16 birthday bash. It started on Wednesday but you know Friday is going to be the best night to celebrate with them. They brought in a super lineup with The Supervillians headlining. Right before them is the one-man project, Mobley. That dude will get a crowd moving.

PAY TRIBUTE TO LOU DOG

Friday, 7 pm
Concrete Street Amphitheater

If you practice Santeria then head out to Concrete Street where Sublime with Rome will be throwing it down. If you’re a Sublime fan they still hit those oldies (yeah they’re oldies now) and their new songs too. Fun Fact I just learned, out of respect for Bradley Nowell they won’t play Caress Me Down because it has his name in the lyrics and Rome did not feel comfortable saying or changing it. So that’s something you now know. This also just happens to be the 25 year anniversary debut of the self-titled LP that was released after Bradley’s death.

FIND ONE-EYED WILLY’S TREASURE

Friday, 8:30 pm
Cole Park Amphitheater

Hey you guys! it’s Friday so you know the Bay Jammin Cinema Series is ready to put on a movie in the park. Grab a Baby Ruth and watch young Thanos/Cable help his little hobbit brother escape from Mama Fratelli. Goonies never say die!

GET ON’EM LIKE CRABS

Saturday, 9 am
Newport Pass

No that’s not as bad as it sounds. That phrase has built a lot of comradery within Corpus’ only Rugby Club. This weekend the Corpus Christi Rugby Football Club is hosting their 7’s By The Sea Rugby Tournament. As far as I know, it’s the only rugby tournament in the sand for miles around. Free event and worth every penny to watch a new sport you’re not familiar with. It’s a lot of fun and a great sport to be involved with. Head out to Newport Pass, get some sun, and watch a bunch of gentlemen play one of the only full-contact sports still around.

GET LAID

Saturday, 11 am
Texas Surf Museum

Calm down! That’s not the type of laid we’re talking about. The Texas Surf Museum is hosting its first annual membership luau, the event is free to the public. So go hang out grab some food, have a beer and play some cornhole. It’s a membership drive so please consider joining, your membership will have a tremendous effect on our surfing culture.

GRAB SOME LOCAL SWAG

Saturday, 12 pm and 2 pm
BUS and Nueces Brewing Company

Two local markets will be up and running right around the same time. If you don’t blow your wad (keep it clean folks) at the BUS market which starts at noon you can finish off your bank account over at Nueces Brewery which will be hosting the Good Market. Both markets always lock down great local vendors, BUS will have Marty McPies hanging around, slanging pizza while Good market will have some axes ready for you to toss.

GO ON A BEER WALKABOUT IN PORT A

Saturday, 3 pm
Port Aransas

To celebrate the release of their new SUP with Chamoy beer, Nueces Brewing Company put together a Pub Crawl around Port Aransas. You can start at any of these places, Salty Dog, Castaways, or Stingrays but you need to make sure you grab a card and have each place punch it, then make it to The Gaff before 7 pm. On completion of your beer quest, you’ll receive a commemorative pint glass.

BE A PINBALL WIZARD

Saturday, 8 pm
Quasars Arcade

Do you play the silver ball? Then show up to Quasars Arcade and jump in the three strikes pinball tournament. $5 buys you in but your skills will keep you in (and quarters). Impress your significant other with your crazy eye thumb coordination, if you come out on top or at least in the top 3, there are some cash money prizes for ya!

RUN AMONGST THE SAND CRABS

Saturday, 8 pm
I.B. Magee Beach Park

I know what’s with us and crabs… but I’m going to say, don’t look at us we’re not naming these things. If you’re one of those just can’t stop people try the Port Aransas Sand Crab Nighttime Beach 5K, 10K, and Kid Mile beach run. The run is hosted by Run in Texas and benefits Friends of the ARK which is an animal rehabilitation program. This run is at night so make sure to grab a headlamp and if you’re not too gassed when you finish you can stick around and have a beer. What would really be a challenge is doing the Nueces Pub Crawl, then completing the 5 or 10k. Come on people the challenge is there!
