Happy International Women’s Day! How are you celebrating all of those special women in your life? Look no further – we’ve compiled all the fun you can have this weekend. But don’t forget: we spring ahead this weekend – so if you’re feeling extra tired on Sunday, you can blame Daylight Savings Time! 

 

45TH ANNUAL FULTON OYSTERFEST

Thursday and Friday, 5 – 11 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to midnight; Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Aw shuck yeah, it’s time for Oysterfest! Now, while eating raw oysters may be a dividing issue for most (personally, I think they’re delicious but you couldn’t pay some of my friends to eat one), there’s nothing divisive about this festival. There’s carnival rides, games, live music, a parade, unique vendor booths and, of course, an oyster eating contest – clearly, there’s something for everyone! Find the whole schedule here.

 

HOT YOGA, COLD BEER

Nueces Brewing Company

Are you feeling a little downward dog? Thos rain clouds seriously dampening your chakras? Do you feel a little more limber with some liquid help? Celebrate International Women’s Day with this installment of Hot Yoga, Cold Beer. This donation-based class is held weekly in the brew room of Nueces Brewing. Grab a cold one for some hot yoga, and we promise you, you’ll feel like a happy baby in no time.

12TH ANNUAL COMPETENCIA FOLKLÓRICA DE TEJAS

Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.,  and Sunday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Prepare to be dazzled by ballet foklorico dancers from across the U.S. and Mexico as they take to the stage with impressive and colorful dances. For $10 daily admission, or $15 for a weekend pass, you can experience and celebrate this cultural performance.

Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures

Embrace the culture of the land of the rising sun with the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures’ Japan Day. The Japanese culture forum is a family-friendly event, complete with entertainment, arts and crafts, exhibits and demonstrations. Must pay museum admission.

 

IKEBANA FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

It’s springtime and the flowers are popping up all around us. While you’re enjoying Japan Day at the Asian Cultures Museum, get hands on and try your hand at the Japanese art of Ikebana, or flower arrangement.
